What is Rolfing?

Rolfing Structural Integration is an approach to hands on bodywork that aims to improve one’s organization in gravity, thereby promoting ease and efficiency in movement.

It is hard to explain in words the felt quality of a Rolfing session, but most people can tell a difference between Rolfing and a massage.  To me, much of this difference lies less in technique and more in the way these two systems approach working with the body.  As a Rolfer®, I am looking to keep a broad perspective when working with the body, even if I’m intervening in a very localized fashion — this work is much about integrating relationships to create a more balanced and high-functioning whole.

Additionally, Rolfing generally seeks client enrollment, meaning you get to play an active role in your own self-improvement process.  Amongst other things, I may ask you to move your body to assist, or I may direct the focus of your attention to utilize your body-awareness as a tool.  This way we cooperatively explore whether Rolfing will be of benefit to you.
